In the past, clean beauty was primarily focused on product formulas and ingredients. Today, however, it means so much more. It’s about sustainability, ethically sourced ingredients, environmentally friendly packaging, and more. But mostly, it’s about constantly learning and growing to create even more clean beauty practices in the future.
Keep reading to find out how we’re keeping our products clean and how you can boost your vibes with a natural beauty practice.
How Does Fifth & Root Promote Clean Beauty?
If you’ve been part of the Fifth & Root fam for a while, you’re probably familiar with some of this info already. If that’s the case, feel free to skip ahead to the Clean Beauty tips you can follow.
For those of you just now joining us, however, here are just a few ways we practice clean beauty.
Clean Beauty is What Originally Inspired Us!
Before our products were even created, our founders’ main goal was to create a line of skincare products designed to enhance natural beauty. That meant carefully selecting organic botanicals to infuse our products with pure plant magic. Each product was carefully curated to keep you looking and feeling your best. This idea is at the very heart of our brand, and it’s why we take clean beauty so seriously.
Ethically Sourced, Natural Ingredients
Speaking of ingredients, we strive to use certified organic ingredients at every opportunity. Seriously, feel free to check the ingredient labels and you’ll see an asterisk next to items sourced from organic farming.
The same goes for the CBD (cannabidiol) we use. Our full-spectrum CBD Oil comes from premium, organic Colorado-grown hemp. You won’t find any GMOs in our hemp, and if you’re really curious you can request a third-party COA (certificate of analysis) to get even more details.
We also strive to not use synthetic aromas and perfumes. Instead, we use terpenes that are already present in most plants. These aromatic compounds are incredibly therapeutic and they’re a huge part of the vibe-enhancing experience of our products.
Some ingredients you won’t find in our products include parabens, added sulfates, chemical sunscreens, harsh preservatives, or synthetic fillers. We will always adhere to the EWG personal care standards because we firmly believe in creating clean and pure products.
Our Products are Cruelty-Free
To make sure that our products are truly feel-good and vibe-worthy, we will never test them on animals. In addition to that, most of our products are vegan. The only exception to that is Salvation, which has organic, responsibly sourced beeswax.
We Hold Our Manufacturing Facilities to the Highest Standards
Our facility in Irvine, CA is certified ISO 9001 and GMP compliant.
The first part is important because it’s the world’s most recognized Quality Management System standard. It means we have a framework in place that ensures consistent quality in our products. To be GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) compliant means we specifically adhere to the regulations put in place by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Basically, we run a tight ship and hold ourselves to very high standards. Plus, we make it a point to use glass containers for our products to make them easier to recycle ;)
5 Clean Beauty Tips for YOU!
It’s time to talk about actionable steps you can take to, not only celebrate Clean Beauty, but to also enhance your personal clean beauty practice.
Some of these may seem like common sense, but that’s because they ARE common sense! Clean, natural beauty doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, some of the simplest things can make a world of difference.
1. Take Inventory of Your Products and CLEAN HOUSE
We’ve all done it. Over time, your bathroom cabinet fills up with a wide variety of products. Some of them you might actually use, but others...not so much. This is a great opportunity to free up some space and clear out the clutter.
Here are a few tips to help you decide what stays and what goes...
- So long as it’s been stored properly, unopened products are good for up to two years. Any longer than that and you should probably throw it away.
- If a product has been opened, it’s shelf life is about one year. After that, time to toss it.
- After that, take a look at the ingredient list of your remaining products. If they align with your clean beauty values, keep them! If not, consider whether or not they really deserve a spot on your beauty altar.
- If something irritates your skin, don’t use it! That should be pretty obvious, but the idea that “beauty is pain” is still pretty prevalent. However, we give you permission to remove items from your beauty routine that do not “spark joy.”
We also realize that simply tossing some items can be extremely wasteful. So, if you have products that are safe and unopened, consider gifting them! If the containers can be recycled, clean them out, and put them in the recycling. Any time you can reduce, re-use, or recycle, you’re helping to preserve the environment!
2. Go Makeup-Free for a Day
We support whatever makes you feel your best. If that means a full-glam makeup look, then get at it! However, your skin does need to breathe every once in a while.
First, your makeup may or may not adhere to your clean beauty values, so sleeping with makeup on can clog your pores with some less-than-stellar stuff. So ALWAYS take your makeup off before bed. If you can work up to having an entirely makeup-free day, then your skin will seriously thank you!
In fact, why not make it an entire self-care ritual! Give yourself an at-home spa day, ditch the makeup, do a face mask, or maybe even a pore-opening steam bath. Just celebrate and love your natural skin!
3. Drink Plenty of Water
Oh, and while you’re practicing some self-love with that spa-day, don’t forget to drink plenty of water. You can spritz it up with a slice of lemon or cucumber, just remember to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
Your whole vibe can fall flat when you’re dehydrated. So if you’re working towards clear, clean skin, then you need to drink up!
4. Get Some Beauty Sleep
If we’re talking about clean, natural beauty, then we need to talk about the natural ways your body heals and replenishes itself. When we don’t get enough sleep, it can immediately show up on our faces. Plus, lack of sleep can immediately dehydrate you (remember how we just covered staying hydrated?).
If you can afford to take a nap every once in a while, DO IT. Something as simple as getting into bed an hour earlier can be the difference between worn-out skin and vibrant skin.
5. Don’t Forget to Smile!
Ok, we completely understand that this tip sounds cheesy. However, happiness looks good on everyone!
Stress can throw your whole body out of whack. So, take the time to enjoy the little things. It will help your skin, body, and mind vibrate at a higher, more gorgeous frequency.
